Floriana

At 1 o’clock in the afternoon, we decided our weather window had finally presented itsel and we left our dock.

Floriana had a 2 pm Captree Bridge opening and was on her way. While the bridge tender and his crew were on time, the bridge had an issue with the pin that disengages each span of the bridge so it can open on demand. Therefore, the bridge crew had to open the west span of the bridge by hand! Floriana sailed under the Captree Bridge almost an hour after schedule but nonetheless grateful to the bridge tender and his crew.

All’una del pomeriggio, abbiamo deciso che la nostra opportunità per un meteo marino favorevole si presentava e abbiamo lasciato gli ormeggi del nostro molo.

Alle 14,00 avevamo l’appuntamento con l’operatore del ponte levatoio per poter passare sotto il Captree Bridge visto che l’albero di 21 mt. non sarebbe passato sotto il ponte fisso un miglio e mezzo più a nord. Mentre l’operatore del ponte ponte e il suo equipaggio erano puntuali all’appuntamento, il ponte stesso ha avuto un problema con il perno che disimpegna ogni campata del ponte in modo che possa aprirsi su richiesta. Pertanto, l’equipaggio ha dovuto aprire manualmente la campata ovest del ponte! Floriana ha navigato sotto il ponte di Captree quasi un’ora dopo l’orario stabilito delle 14,00 ma comunque grata al tecnico di plancia e al suo equipaggio.

The afternoon was fairly warm, and Floriana sailed towards Sore Thumb confidently until it began to rain heavily, diminishing visibility. We touched the bottom once but never ran aground

Il pomeriggio era abbastanza caldo e Floriana salpò verso Sore Thumb con sicurezza fino a quando non iniziò a piovere pesantemente, diminuendo la visibilità. Abbiamo toccato il fondo una volta ma non ci siamo mai arenati

We finally anchored and Floriana settled in for the night. It stopped raining just as the sun was setting over the Great South Bay.

Alla fine ci siamo ancorati in un posto sicuro per passare la notte. Smise di piovere proprio mentre il sole stava tramontando sulla baia di Long Island, il Great South Bay.
