Come sail with me….the best is yet to be

October 24,2024

It was time to say goodbye (and thank you) to our hosts for their hospitality and generosity. We headed to see Mount Etna….the largest volcano in Europe and one of the most active in the world.

***Unfortunately, the below pictures were free images available online because that day Etna was enveloped in fog 😦 But I wanted to give everyone a sense of how big Etna is! The plan was to take the cable car to the crater….but they were not running due to the fog and the strong winds at the top.

We took the drive up anyway and had lunch on the way.

Etna has a south side that looks like the picture below….vegetation that can’t grow well in between the solidified lava flows. And then it has a north side which is lush and green! We could only get to the south side as the north side was immersed in thick fog. However, at the base of the north side we noticed an immense forest of chestnut trees!

The local red wine was out of this world!

And of course, the god protector of Etna had to be appeased (with coin, of course!)….so I added a dime in his mouth. LOL
