The decision was made to see The Valley of the Temples in Agrigento. Rather than take the highway, we took roads along the coastline. It was interesting to see how the scenery changed.

First we passed Ispica then Modica, both centers of organic farming, especially for zucchini, tomatoes, olives and vineyards.

Then we arrived at Licata, a seaside town with a boat basin that’s huge! We spoke to the restaurant owner who told us that it’s a port for foreign sailboat owners. It seems they leave the boat docked there all year round and use it to sail the Med during times of vacations. Nice idea!

We finally arrive at Agrigento

We checked into a BnB in Agrigento called Triskeles

The name Triskeles (in Greek) means 3 Points. The Triskelion, known in Sicily also as the Trinacria, is the three-legged woman that symbolizes Sicily and it is the official flag of the Sicilian region. The three legs represent the island’s three promontories while the Medusa’s head is a reference to the goddess Athena, who protected Sicily. The wheat is a symbol of fertility.

Giovanna and her husband greeted us into their luxury apartment and treated us like they’ve known us forever….as if we were family. Below is the breakfast spread they provided included in the room price. Wonderful!

The hotel was in the modern section of Agrigento, but we decided to take a stroll to the historic center and have dinner.

We were tired, and tomorrow we plan to visit the Valley of the Temples…. a full day of walking and climbing, so we went to bed fairly early.
