It’s amazing to me how something so rugged, so jagged, so burly and rough could be so beautiful!

Filicudi is the 6th of 7 islands in this archipelago. This group of islands extends westward from the Sicilian shore and each island seems to get smaller and smaller. The human population is beginning to dwindle, especially in Filicudi… and Alicudi will be the least inhabited.

Every time the ferry comes into port, it creates a wake that disturbs the shoreline. While on a sandy shoreline the wake would produce a soft, washing sound, on a volcanic island the sound is incredible. Be a little patient and listen to the entire video clip below.

It is off season here in Filicudi and the restaurants are closed, along with most caffe`s….it’s quiet. But Claudio has decided that he could embrace this simple life….so he’s trying it out!
