Edgartown Day 2
This morning we decided to have breakfast at this off-the-beaten-path café that we discovered the day before. It was strategically hidden from street view but had an inviting sign at the entrance that read, “Breakfast served daily: 6:00 am to 8:00 am coffee and pastry 8:00 am to 10:00 am full breakfast.” Great marketing idea! Peak their curiosity and they will come… and we did!
The aroma of freshly brewed coffee welcomed us as we stepped inside. The outdoor patio was covered with overhead sails to shield us from the sun and the tables were surrounded with plants and trees. I enjoyed a buttery croissant with strawberry jam, while Claudio ordered 2 eggs over medium and toast….which he promptly sent back! He complained that they were not over medium, as he had ordered, and they were cold! You must know that I will always send back overcooked and soggy food (like pasta that’s not al-dente or fish that’s mushy), but Claudio’s eggs MUST BE PERFECT…or it ruins his whole day! The second time around they got it right! My friends are right…we are food snobs!

This hidden gem undoubtedly set a delightful tone for the rest of our Edgartown adventure!
After that memorable breakfast (2 coffees, 2 eggs and one croissant = $45 but that was with tip!) we strolled through town and happened upon an outdoor wedding! Of course the bride was beautiful and the guests were dressed very elegantly. So Claudio and I wished them (silently) our best wishes for a long and happy marriage. I also sent out positive energy to them and hope that, when those moments come when they fight, and ‘hate’ each other, and can’t stand being in the same room with each other, they close their eyes and remember the moment (and the reason) that they fell in love. Holding on to those feelings and being able to recall them, even in bad times, I think is the basic secret to an endless love. Congrats to them!

As we walked past Murdick’s Fudge and Ice Cream Parlor, we thought of our friend Dennis, who takes his boat to Edgartown as often as possible just to have his favorite ice cream at Murdick’s! The last time we stood here, we were here with the Krugs and the VanTassels… fun times!
