I was amazed that I managed to sleep at all that night. The wind was blowing at 20 knots steady all night long, with gusts to 30 knots! The boat didn’t rock excessively so laying down was not uncomfortable. But the noise that wind can make at 25 or 30 knots is overwhelming and sleeping soundly was not an option!
By daybreak however, the wind was blowing at 15 to 20 knots from the north-northeast….so we took off with an outgoing current and favorable conditions.
The sail to the Montauk Lighthouse was fast and the ocean was the calmest I’ve seen it!
Past the Montauk Lighthouse and around Montauk Point was a breeze. This was a treat because typically, even in good sailing conditions, Montauk Point is rocking-n-rolling and uncomfortable at best. Today, it was an oil slick!
We finally start to see Block Island on the horizon!

As we come close to the head buoy at Block Island, we notice the frenetic activity of several boats ahead of us!
After having a quiet dinner onboard, we decided to head for the Oar Bar. This is a landmark restaurant and bar at Block Island that has been there since 1967; and since 1967, customers have been leaving a commemorative oar on the walls of the OAR Restaurant.
