Dawn was beautiful but chilly. Floriana caught the outgoing current at 8 a.m. through the inlet and followed the newly laid buoys perfectly. Thanks to the Coast Guard for resetting the buoys in their right place! (That’s me under the blanket!)

The first part of this trip took approximately 6 hours long just to get to the mouth of Shinnecock Inlet. And the autopilot gives the captain time to relax and read a good book.

Crossing paths with a fishing trawler.

The approach to Shinnecock must be timed properly so the current is in the same direction you are traveling. If it can at all be helped, you do not ever want the current against you, especially when heading into an inlet.

We decided that this year we would not anchor by the fishing peers because the winds would be gusting to 25 knots and the anchorage is too close to the beach. So we took the inside channel and found this beautiful, peaceful anchorage that housed us safely for the night.
