We woke up to a wet and soggy June 1st….and the North East winds are still blow

Ci siamo svegliati con un 1° giugno nebbioso e fradicio… e i venti del nord-est continuano a soffiare

Our destination was to Coinjock Marina. We had heard so many great things about the place. For meat lovers, it’s the place to get a 32 oz. prime rib dinner that is the best anywhere. For others, it’s having a beer in their welcoming bar. For us it was the chance to come out of the nasty weather and nasty seas that had been beating down on us all day. The north east winds were still blowing at 20 knots, gusting to 30 knots…on the nose! If that weren’t enough, we motored in 4′ stepped seas all across the Albemarle Sound! We were wet and cranky!!! Even the shrimp lunch didn’t make us feel better.

La nostra destinazione era Coinjock Marina. Avevamo sentito da altri che era una bella marina con tanto di pub e ristorante….rinomato fra gli amanti della carne per le sue maxi bistecche da 1 kg.! Per molti marinai, Coinjock è un posto per bere una birra in compagnia. Per noi è stata l’occasione per uscire dal brutto tempo e dal brutto mare che ci ha picchiato addosso tutto il giorno. I venti di nord-est soffiavano ancora a 20 nodi, con raffiche fino a 30 nodi sul dritto di prua! Se ciò non bastasse, il vento formava onde corte e ripide lungo tutto l’attraversamento dell’Albemarle Sound! Eravamo bagnati e irritabili!!! Anche il pranzo a base di gamberetti non ci ha fatto sentire meglio.

Once we docked at Coinjock, we immediately started to feel better. Dockage is very tight to the next boat in order to maximize the available dock space. When it’s very crowded, they will raft the boats to one another, two deep.

Una volta attraccati a Coinjock, abbiamo subito iniziato a sentirci meglio. L’attracco è molto stretto alla barca successiva per massimizzare lo spazio disponibile in banchina. Quando è molto affollato, l’usanza e` di attraccare a fianco alla barca che e` gia` in banchina.
