This morning we left N. Myrtle Beach fairly late. We were in no hurry to sail far…the usual 50 or 60 miles per day because, while the weather here is beautiful, we are following a weather pattern that will become nasty in the next few days. But in the meanwhile, we’re enjoying the day and the scenery!

Questa mattina abbiamo lasciato N. Myrtle Beach piuttosto tardi. Non abbiamo fretta di navigare le solite 50 o 60 miglia al giorno, perche` mentre il tempo qui è bello, stiamo monitorando un andamento meteorologico che presto portera` mal tempo. Ma nel frattempo ci godiamo la giornata e il panorama!

Today we passed 2 inlets on our way to Southport. The first was Shallotte Point Inlet. It did not look very safe to us!

Oggi transitiamo 2 pass oceaniche andando verso Southport. Il primo si chiama Shallotte Point Inlet. Il pass non da molta sicurezza. Lingue di sabbia si stendono a sinistra e destra del pass abbastanza minacciose!

Then we passed Lockwood Foley Inlet. This inlet seemed dangerous as well….yet there were large boats just outside it’s ocean buoys.

Poi abbiamo superato Lockwood Foley Inlet. Anche questo pass oceanico sembrava piutosto pericoloso … eppure c’erano grandi barche da pesca appena fuori dalle sue boe principali.

Claudio was closely studying the weather forecast when he finally exclaimed, “HERE WE GO AGAIN!” We will be encountering ANOTHER Nor’easter in the next few days! I started hailing marinas on the VHF to see if any had an empty slip that could accommodate our boat. Each one told me they were full because of the anticipated storm headed our way. It suddenly occurred to me that, since we left NY last October, we have encountered 3 Nor’easters (including this one), 1 Hurricane (Nicole) and 1 Tornado! Are we done yet?!

Claudio stava studiando attentamente le previsioni del tempo quando finalmente esclamò: “CI SIAMO DI NUOVO!” Nei prossimi giorni incontreremo UN ALTRO Nor’easter, tipica tempesta di pioggia e vento che di tanto in tanto afflige la costa est degli Stati Uniti! Mi sono messa subito sul VHF per vedere se qualche marina avesse un posto barca da offrirci. Ognuno mi ripeteva la stessa cosa…non avevano posti barca liberi perche erano stati gia` prenotati da altri che cercavano un porto sicuro. All’improvviso mi è venuto in mente che, da quando abbiamo lasciato New York lo scorso ottobre, abbiamo incontrato 3 Nor’easter (compreso questo), 1 Uracano (Nicole) e 1 Tornado!!!! Abbiamo dato!

Even Wolfie was worried….he said to me, “Look Zia Flori, it’s starting to rain!”

Anche Wolfie era preoccupato….mi disse: “Guarda zia Flori, comincia a piovere!”

I thought it best to make him feel safe so I told Wolfie to sit under his foul weather gear and stay dry.

Ho pensato che fosse meglio farlo sentire al sicuro, quindi ho detto a Wolfie di sedersi sotto la sua tendina impermeabile e mettersi a riparo..

Finally, St. James Plantation Marina in Southport NC advised us that they had a cancellation and could accommodate our boat.

Finalmente il St. James Plantation Marina ci ha informato che qualcuno aveva cancellato la loro prenotazione e che potevano ospitare la nostra barca.
