This was a day to forget, unfortunately. Bad news from a life-long friend dumped my mood into the darkest depths of my soul….and from there it got even worse. I argued with anyone that, for their misfortune crossed my path, and finally I argued with Claudio who’s only fault was being in the vicinity of me that night. Sorry Claudio. It’s 6 p.m. and I’m going to bed. Maybe I’ll take Wolfie with me for some cuddling.

Questo è stato un giorno da dimenticare, purtroppo. Un amica d’infanzia mi ha dato una brutta notizia e il mio umore e` sprofondato…e da lì è peggiorato ancora. Litigavo con chiunque incontravo e infine ho litigato con Claudio, la cui unica colpa era quella di essere stato vicino a me quel giorno. Scusa Claudio. Sono le 18:00 e vado a letto. Forse porterò Wolfie con me per un po’ di coccole.

I slept for over 12 hours….I guess I needed to break down. But it did me a world of good. I’m feeling better this morning and I’m ready to see St. Augustine.

Ho dormito per più di 12 ore… ne avevo bisogno e mi ha fatto un mondo di bene. Mi sento meglio stamattina e sono pronto per vedere Sant’Agostino.

We started the morning with a hearty egg breakfast at Nero’s Waterfront Cafe`.

Abbiamo iniziato la giornata con una ricca colazione a base di uova al Nero’s Waterfront Cafe`.

We strolled along the waterfront and headed towards the fort…. Castillo de San Marcos.

Abbiamo passeggiato sul lungomare e ci siamo diretti verso il forte…. Castillo de San Marcos.

Un po’ di storia: dopo l’insediamento di Sant’Agostino a metà del XVI secolo, il suo fondatore, Pedro Menendez de Aviles di Spagna, decise che la città e il suo porto avevano bisogno di protezione. La costruzione iniziò nel 1672 e fu finalmente completata dopo 23 anni di costruzione nel 1695. Da allora è stata rivendicata da spagnoli, inglesi, americani…..è stata data ai Confederati e ripresa dall’Unione!

Questo ‘soldato spagnolo’ ci ha accolti all’ingresso, con in mano una tazza di caffè.

Walking around St. Augustine was very interesting.

Passeggiare per Sant’Agostino è stato molto interessante.

Augustinians (is that how we should call them?) really identify with their pets!

Gli agostiniani (è così che dovremmo chiamarli?) si identificano davvero con i loro animali domestici!

Lunch was at the River & Front, a lovely rooftop restaurant in front of the fort.

After some more walking and exploring, we found this little place for dinner called Casa Maya…

Dopo aver camminato ed esplorato ancora un po’, abbiamo trovato questo posticino per cena chiamato Casa Maya…

It’s a tiny place with outdoor seating. They have live music, and this Cuban duo was incredibly good.

È un posto minuscolo con posti a sedere all’aperto. Hanno musica dal vivo e questo duo cubano è stato incredibilmente bravo.

It was a wonderful day!
