Titusville to Daytona

Another tranquil day on the ICWW. The only issue was the heat and humidity! There was no wind to speak of and, at 9:00 a.m. it was already 88 degrees!

Un’altra giornata tranquilla sulla ICWW. L’unico problema era il caldo e l’umidità! Non c’era vento e, alle 9:00 di mattina, c’erano già 30 gradi!

We anchored Floriana just south of the Seabreeze Twin Bridges. There weren’t many boats at the anchorage, but one did stand out. It didn’t catch our eye because it was black, or because it was steel, or because it was a Junk Rig….what caught our eye was the chicked pecking underneath the dodger! The name of the sailboat is Ondine. We took the dinghy over to Ondine and introduced ourselves. We met this very nice woman, single hander, named Nancy and she told us all about Penny…her liveaboard chicken!

Abbiamo ancorato Floriana appena a sud dei ponti gemelli Seabreeze. Non c’erano molte barche all’ancoraggio, ma una spiccava. Non ha attirato la nostra attenzione perché era nera, o perché era d’acciaio, o perché era un Junk Rig… ciò che ha attirato la nostra attenzione è stato vedere una gallina che beccava sotto il tendalino! Il nome della barca a vela è Ondine. Ci siamo avvicinato con il gommone e ci siamo presentati. Abbiamo incontrato questa donna molto simpatica di nome Nancy e ci ha raccontato tutto di Penny… la sua gallina da diporto!

Nancy explained to us that Penny was raised from a chick onboard the boat and provided her with an egg per day. Nancy has taken Penny down the east coast and to Bahamas. She takes the chicken on the dinghy and lets her walk around onshore. Penny never tries to run away, and she has become a sailing companion to Nancy, and she appreciates having her aboard.

Nancy ci ha spiegato che ha allevato Penny da pulcino a bordo della barca e che le ha fornisce un uovo al giorno. Nancy ha portato Penny fino alle Bahamas. Ci ha spiegato che mette Penny sul gommone e la porta a terra. Penny non cerca mai di scappare, ed è diventata una compagna di navigazione per Nancy, e apprezza averla a bordo.

We left Nancy and Penny and headed for Loggerhead Club & Marina. We had dinner at Jack’s Caribbean Grill. As Ebert and Siskel used to say on TV, “Two thumbs down!” Sorry Jack.

Abbiamo lasciato Nancy e Penny e ci siamo diretti verso Loggerhead Club & Marina. Abbiamo cenato al Jack’s Caribbean Grill. Non e’ stato di nostro gradimento!
