ALLORA….Dove eravamo rimasti?

Hello everyone! It’s been a while since we’ve written in our blog, and many things have happened in the meantime.

Ciao a tutti! Era da un po’ che non scrivevamo nel nostro blog, e nel frattempo sono successe molte cose.

We got a taste of Florida life, with all its pros and cons. Luckily, the pros out way the cons by much, but not being able to get a good pizza or bagel is definitely on my Cons list. LOL

Abbiamo avuto un assaggio della vita in Florida, con tutti i suoi pro e contro. Fortunatamente, i pro superano di gran lunga i contro, ma non essere in grado di mangiare una buona pizza o un bagel fatto come si deve è sicuramente nella mia lista dei contro.

L’enorme varietà di vita animale e vegetale in Florida offre una gamma di colori e forme che ti invogliano ogni giorno ad alzarti presto per non perderti nulla!

From the lazy, sunning, iguanas….

Dai pigri iguane stesi al sole….

to the hundreds of magnificent bird species….

alle centinaia di magnifiche specie di uccelli….

to the stunning colors of the fish and the manatees in the waters,

ai meravigliosi colori dei pesci e dei lamantini nelle acque,

To the palm trees and plant life…. that sway in the breezes and fill the senses with tranquility.

Alle palme e alle piante, che con il loro ondeggiare, infondono tranquillità.

We spent most of December in Palm Beach but I wanted to spend Christmas with my mother that was having some health issues…so I flew home while Claudio stayed with the cats in Palm Beach.

Abbiamo passato la maggior parte del mese di dicembre a Palm Beach ma volevo passare il Natale con mia madre che aveva dei problemi di salute… così sono tornata a casa mentre Claudio è rimasto con i gatti a Palm Beach.

Christmas in New York, with my family, was wonderful. I hosted both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We even had company from Italy; my cousin Flavia and her husband Enrico. We spent a few days in New York and then flew down to Florida together.

Il Natale a New York, e con la mia famiglia, è stato davvero bello. Abbiamo passato sia la vigilia che il giorno di Natale a casa mia. Abbiamo anche avuto il piacere di ospitare mia cugina Flavia e suo marito Enrico. Trascorsi alcuni giorni a New York, ripartiamo tutti insieme per la Florida per raggiungere Claudio.

Other friends visited after my cousins left, and with each visit we had a great time!

Anche alcuni amici ci sono venuti a trovare in Florida e abbiamo trascorso dei bei giorni!

An exciting development has been my 7-year-old nephew Alessio, my brother Max’s son, who has begun his journey to follow his dream….becoming a Formula One driver! Dad bought him his first racing car and he trains with a racing legend…Carlo Iaconelli, Formula 2 driver! These young kids are trained to drive around a difficult track at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour! That doesn’t seem like a lot of speed, but the track winds in and out…and he’s ONLY 7!!! Watching him makes me nervous…I can’t help it! LOL

Uno sviluppo entusiasmante è stato mio nipote Alessio di 7 anni, figlio di mio fratello Max, che ha iniziato il suo viaggio per seguire il suo sogno….diventare un pilota di Formula Uno! Suo padre gli ha comprato la sua prima auto da corsa e lui apprende le prime tecniche di guida da una leggenda della Formula 2… Carlo Iaconelli! Alla giovane età di Alessio, questi ragazzi riescono a guidare su una pista abbastanza impegnativa con piccoli bolidi e a velocità che raggiungono gli 80 Kmh! Non sembra una gran velocità, ma bisogna tener presente che ha SOLO 7 anni!!! Vedendolo sfrecciare davanti ai miei occhi mi da un senzo di timore…non posso farne a meno! LOL

On March 2nd, we boarded a plane for Italy. It had been 3 years since Claudio saw his mom (who is now 89 years old!) and, with COVID restrictions lifted, we decided it was time to visit the family that lives on the other side of the ocean. Italy + family = a fabulous time, and the memories we make with them are always priceless.

Il 2 marzo siamo partiti per l’l’Italia. sono passati 3 anni da l’ultima volta che Claudio vedeva sua madre (che ora ha 89 anni!) e, con le restrizioni COVID revocate, abbiamo deciso che era ora di visitare la famiglia che vive dall’altra parte dell’oceano. Il binomio Italia + famiglia equivale a ricordi preziosi e impagabili. !

Spending time with my mother-in-law was priceless as well!

Anche passare del tempo con mia suocera e’ stato bello!

We had a chance to hug our family members again….and for every hug we gave them, they rewarded us with unbelievable food!!

Abbiamo avuto la possibilità di riabbracciare i nostri familiari….e siamo stati a tavola lunghe ore gustando cibi deliziosi.

And now the time has come to prep the boat again for the next leg of the journey heading back home.

E ora è giunto il momento di preparare nuovamente la barca per il viaggio di ritorno a New York.

Provisioning is always a huge chore…not only in the executing but in the planning and deciding of what to bring on a boat that has with limited storage capacity.

L’approvvigionamento è sempre un compito arduo… non solo nell’esecuzione, ma anche nella pianificazione e nella decisione di cosa portare a bordo sulle b hanno sempre un limitato spazzio.

La data di partenza è stata decisa….8 maggio 2023!

Oh! forgot to tell you about the Palm Beach Tornado! The tornado was classified an EF-1 with winds of +/- 100 miles per hour. It came barreling through N. Palm Beach on March 29th, my brother’s birthday. The four of us had decided to take my brother’s Mainship 30 to Peanut Island and celebrate his birthday at the beach. My brother is a pilot and always has his radar app on. Suddenly the app lit up showing a fast-moving front headed towards us. It was decided that we should return home before the sun began to set but would keep the storm ahead of us. We watched the sky darken and we were amazed at the lightning strikes immediately in front of us. We had just tied onto the mooring ball when a wall of fast-moving water headed in our direction! The winds that accompanied the water spun the boat 360 degrees around its mooring, twice. By the time the tornado dissipated, businesses along US1 were damaged and cars were flipped upside down. (I didn’t know how to put the YouTube video within this page…..but if you look up ‘Palm Beach Tornado’, you’ll see the mayhem.) Luckily, the tornado did not affect the residences where we live and, more importantly, no one was hurt.

OH! Dimenticavo di parlare del Tornado di Palm Beach! Il tornado, classificato un EF-1, con venti di +/- 160 Kmh … si è formato nella zona di N. Palm Beach il 29 marzo, il giorno del compleanno di mio fratello. Noi quattro avevano deciso di festeggiare il compleanno di mio fratello facendo una piccola crocera sulla sua barca. Mio fratello, essendo un pilota, ha sempre con lui un app che evidenzia i temporali in avvicinamento. All’improvviso l’app lanciava un WARNING per attivita’ temporalesche molto violente e che si diriggevano verso di noi. Decidemmo di rallentare notevolmente l’andatura affinche’ l’evento temporalesco passasse avanti a noi. Nonostante questa precauzione, veniamo investiti ugualmente dalla coda di quella che poi abbiamo appreso essere stato un tornado. Riusciamo ad agganciarci ad un corpo morto poco prima di essere investiti dal tornado. La violenza dei venti ci fanno fare 2 giri di 360 gradi attorno al corpo morto. Grossi danni si sono verificati a meno di un quarto di miglio ad ovest di dove eravamo. (Non sapevo come inserire il video di YouTube all’interno di questa pagina…..ma se cerchi ‘Palm Beach Tornado’, vedrai il caos.) Per fortuna il tornado non ha colpito il residence dove abitiamo e, soprattutto, nessuno è rimasto ferito.
