Wet, misty, soggy, foggy, muggy…..these are just some of the words that come to mind to describe the kind of day this was. In the morning, visibility was less than a quarter mile, which made seeing bridges ahead a little daunting.

Bagnato, nebbioso, afoso ….. Queste sono solo alcune delle parole che mi vengono in mente per descrivere il tipo di giornata che è stata. Al mattino, la visibilità era inferiore a un quarto di miglio, il che rendeva difficolotoso vedere i punti da attraversare.

We traveled under 10 bridges today….the view at each approach to a bridge was like this.

Abbiamo transitato ben 10 ponti oggi e la vista davanti a noi era tutta come si vede nella foto.

At mile 845.0, as we approached the tenth and final bridge, we were advised by the bridgetender that the George Musson/Corona Beach draw bridge was disabled due to an electrical issue and would not open until further notice! We were in the vicinity of the draw bridge at approximately noon and found a crowd of boats (mostly catamarans) just floating there waiting for the bridge to be fixed and to open. The bridgetender made an initial attempt at 1:00 o’clock but failed to open the bridge. Electricians were hard at work trying to solve the issue and all we could do was follow the radio conversations between the bridgetender and the electricians. At 2:00 o’clock the bridgetender was advised by the electricians that he should try again. And he succeeded!

Alcuni dei ponti attraversati oggi sono ponti levatoi. Al miglio 845.0, mentre ci avvicinavamo al decimo e ultimo ponte, siamo stati avvisati sul VHF che il ponte levatoio George Musson / Corona Beach era disabilitato a causa di un problema elettrico e non sarebbe stato aperto fino a nuovo avviso! Eravamo nelle vicinanze del ponte levatoio verso mezzogiorno e abbiamo trovato molte barche (per lo più catamarani) che erano in attesa che il ponte fosse riparato e aperto. Una seconda comunicazione VHF ci avvisava che un tentativo di apertura era possibile alle ore 13,00. Ma non e’ stato possibile per aggiunte difficolta’ tecniche. Gli elettricisti erano al lavoro per cercare di risolvere il problema e tutto ciò che potevamo fare era seguire le conversazioni via radio tra l’addetto al ponte e gli elettricisti. Alle 14:00 finalmente siamo riusciti ad avere un’apertura del ponte!

We decided to spend the night at the New Smyrna Beach City Marina to avoid being at anchor with the predicted thunderstorms coming our way. We walked to the River Deck, a nearby restaurant famous for its fish tacos and spent a lovely, rainy evening enjoying a glass of wine and some good food…. although Claudio was contemplating whether the nearby guest would demand part of his fish dinner! He didn’t move an inch all through the meal.

Abbiamo deciso di passare la notte al New Smyrna Beach City Marina per evitare di essere all’ancora con i temporali previsti in arrivo. Siamo andati al ristorante River Deck distante pochi passi dal marina famoso per i suoi Tacos di Pesce . Abbiamo trascorso una bella serata piovosa gustando un bicchiere di vino e del buon cibo…. anche se Claudio si chiedeva se l’ospite vicino al nostro tavolo avresse reclamato parte della nostra!
