After a quiet night at anchor at Pine Island, this morning we headed for St. Augustine. The trip was at times very quick and at times very slow depending on which inlet you pass and the strong currents it generates, favorable or not.

Dopo una tranquilla notte all’ancora a Pine Island, questa mattina ci siamo diretti verso St. Augustine. Il viaggio è stato a tratti molto veloce e a volte molto lento a seconda di quale pass oceanico si passa e delle forti correnti che genera, favorevoli o meno.

We shot through the bridge at St. Augustine due to the favorable current which barely gave me time to take some pictures!

Ci dirigiamo verso il ponte di St. Augustine con una forte corrente a favore che ci ha dato a mala pena il tempo di scattare qualche foto!

Unfortunately, we saw several victims of hurricane Nicole….and I’m very glad that we were able to stay at the Charleston Harbor Marina and wait until she passed.

Sfortunatamente, abbiamo visto diverse vittime dell’uragano Nicole…. e ci sentiamo fortunati di aver trovato un rifuggio sicuro a Charleston affinche’ l’uragano ci passa.

We finally pulled into the Marineland Marina for the night but getting there was a challenge. The waters were shallow because, we traveled past the Matanzas Inlet and the tide had become dead low. The buoys were not more than 100 feet off the beach and the instrument readings made me anxious.

Alla fine siamo entrati nel Marineland Marina per la notte, ma arrivarci è stata una sfida. Le acque erano poco profonde perché la marea di riflusso aveva abbassato il fondali in maniera preoccupante.

And getting into the marina was a challenge as well. The buoys were 50 feet apart, with a strong current on the beam and a crosswind to add to the difficulty..

E anche entrare nel marina è stata una sfida. Il canale d’entrata era molto stretto e la forte corrente sulla nostra fiancata di dritta accompagnata da un vento sostenuto ci ha impegnato non poco all’approccio in porto.
