This morning we received several bits of news…some good, some bad, some worse.

Questa mattina riceviamo notizie che vanno dal incoraggianti a molto pessimiste.

The morning started out like most mornings. I wake up at 6:00 a.m. and make coffee. Then I sit in the cockpit and watch the rest of the world wake up, including the captain that would rather sleep until much later in the morning!

La mattinata è iniziata come la maggior parte di ogni mattine. Mi sveglio alle 6:00 e preparo il caffè. Poi mi siedo in pozzetto e guardo il resto del mondo svegliarsi, incluso il capitano che di solito dorme piu` di me!

So, last night we went to bed still on multiple waiting lists for marina space. We were not confident that we would be able to find a slip, in a marina around the Charleston area, that would allow us to safely get past the incoming weather. We were wrong! At 8:00 a.m. the Charleston Harbor & Resort Marina contacted us and confirmed our reservation! It is the most protected marina in the harbor according to our friend Bob that has passed this way many times when taking the boat south. And although I’d like to say that this news made me feel better, it was overshadowed by the news of Nicole…the hurricane heading for Florida and expected to come up the coast.

Ieri sera ci siamo ritirati nelle nostre cuccette senza aver la sicurezza di avere un approdo protetto dal ciclone che ci investrira` nei prossimi giorni. Alle 8:00 di mattina il Charleston Harbour & Resort Marina ci ha contattato e confermato un posto barca nel loro marina! Dalle nostre ricerche sembra essere un marina abbastanza protetto da eventi meteo marini severi. E anche se vorrei dire che questa notizia mi ha fatto sentire meglio, è stata oscurata dalla notizia di Nicole… l’uragano diretto verso la Florida e previsto pdi risalire verso nord-est.

Later in the morning the news got worse. It seems that Nicole is now being estimated to make landfall in the West Palm Beach area, where we have a condo and a slip at the condo marina! The condo doesn’t worry me because it’s on the second floor of a low building and well protected. However, I’d hate for the marina to be badly damaged from this hurricane and we lose our slip. Thanks to forward thinking Claudio, we do have a mooring ball off the marina in Lake Worth. That will certainly come in handy should the marina get damaged from the hurricane. Thanks Claudio!

Più tardi la mattina le notizie sono peggiorate. Sembra che Nicole sia ora stimata per approdare nella zona di West Palm Beach, dove abbiamo un appartamento e un posto barca condominiale! L’appartamento non mi preoccupa perché è al secondo piano di un edificio basso e ben protetto. Tuttavia, mi dispiacerebbe che il posto barca fosse gravemente danneggiato da questo uragano. Grazie al lungimirante Claudio, abbiamo una palla di ormeggio al largo del porto di Lake Worth. Ciò sarà sicuramente utile se il porto condominiale dovesse essere danneggiato dall’uragano. It’s a full moon tonight and ordinarily I’d be pleased. But the skies are preparing for something big, and I get more worried with every passing hour.

Stasera c’è la luna piena e normalmente sarei contenta. Ma i cieli si stanno preparando per qualcosa di grande, e mi preoccupa sempre di piu’ ogni ora che passa.
