La navigazione regala ore di piacere…. interrotte da momenti di puro panico!!

We woke up to the news that a tropical disturbance would be passing alongside the southeast coast of the US. These kind of weather events can become strong and menacing, or they can fizzle out into nothing to worry about. But when you are on a sailboat, you can’t take any chances. We went to our Predict Wind app and saw the forecast….not good.

Ci siamo svegliati con la notizia che una perturbazione tropicale sarebbe passata lungo la costa sud-est degli Stati Uniti. Questo tipo di evento meteorologico e’ da tenere d’occhio perche’ puo provocare sia venti di burrasca oppure deviare piu` ad est nell’atlantico e rivelarsi molto meno temibile. Ma quando navighi su una barca a vela di 13 metri la prudenza non e' mai troppa. Percio` decidiamo d’interpellare un app specializzato nella metereologia marina dal nome Predict Wind e scopriamo che effettivamente le previsioni non sono buone.

Monday and Tuesday would be relatively calm.

Lunedi’ e Martedi‘ le previsioni danno una metereologia tranquilla.

Wednesday and Thursday were predicted to be the worst days of this tropical storm event, with sustained winds between 20 – 25 knots and gusts to almost 40 knots!

Mercoledì e Giovedì risultano i giorni peggiori dal punto di vista meteo marino con venti sostenuti tra i 20 e i 25 nodi e raffiche a quasi 40 nodi!

We had been trying all of last week to make reservations at the marinas around the Charleston area, but we were unsuccessful and are on multiple waiting lists. The thought of anchoring out between the open marshes during this wind event makes me nervous….very nervous!

Abbiamo tentato di assicure un approdo in un marina riparato ma con esito negativo. I marina risultavano tutti prenotati. Quindi non ci resta di rimanere in lista di attesa con la speranza che qualche posto si liberi. La prospettiva di stare all’ancora con venti forti da nord-est mi rende al quanto nervosa…anzi, molto nervosa!
