Floriana

Coming out of the Pungo Canal, we passed under the Wilkerson Creek Bridge, marking the end of the canal and the entrance to the Pungo River. Here we encountered the switching of the buoys….something that we were warned to be vigilant about! Up until that point, we were heading with red buoys to starboard (right). Right after the bridge, we saw that the red buoys needed to be followed to port (left).

Uscendo dal Pungo Canal, siamo passati sotto il Wilkerson Creek Bridge che segna la fine del canale e l’ingresso al fiume Pungo. Qui abbiamo incontrato il cambio delle boe…. qualcosa su cui siamo stati avvertiti di essere vigili! Fino a quel momento, ci stavamo dirigendo con boe rosse a dritta (a destra). Subito dopo il ponte, abbiamo visto che le boe rosse dovevano essere seguite a fiancata di sinistra.

At that point, I immediately took out the red and green clothes pins that our good friend Adriana Krug gave us for the trip. She explained that sometimes, the change of the buoy direction can become confusing and, if you are distracted watching the landscape, you can easily misjudge the buoy to take and go aground! She told me to clip the clothespins onto the chart plotter as a quick and constant reference pointing to the direction of the buoys. It works like a charm…thank you Adriana.

A quel punto, ho subito tirato fuori le mollette rosse e verdi che la nostra cara amica Adriana Krug ci ha regalato per il viaggio. Ci ha spiegato che a volte, il cambio di direzione delle boe può confondere se non si presta attenzione. Mi ha suggerito di agganciare le mollette al plotter cartografico come riferimento visivo e costante che indica la direzione delle boe. Funziona benissimo… grazie Adriana.

At about 1:00 pm we entered the Belhaven Marina….a well-managed, clean and very friendly marina.

Verso le 13:00 siamo entrati nella Marina di Belhaven…. una marina ben gestita, pulita e molto accogliente.
