After a peaceful night’s sleep, Cladio and I took the dinghy to the Fishing Bay Marina, situated just in front of our boat. This quaint marina caters to all type and size boats and has all the amenities of a well-run marina; a pool, showers and laundry facilities. For a nominal fee, you are given the keys to their loaner car which allows you go into Deltaville to provision, use the banks and post office, or simply go to lunch. I finally got Claudio to help with the food shopping… something he does not like to do ordinarily!

Dopo una notte di buon riposo, abbiamo calato il dinghy e ci siamo diretti verso il Fishing Bay Marina, 300 metri dalla nostra prua. Questo pittoresco marina ospita barche di ogni tipo e di ogni nazionbalita` e ha tutti i comfort di un marina ben gestito; una piscina, docce e lavanderia. Per una tariffa nominale, la marina ti mette a disposizione una macchina per poter accedere al paesino di Deltaville situato a circa 2,5 km dal marina. La macchina ti consente di accedere a servizi importanti come fare cambusa, utilizzare le banche e l’ufficio postale, o semplicemente andare a pranzo. Piccola rivincita… Claudio finalmente viene con me a fare spesa al supermercato, cosa che evita come la peste!

Later in the afternoon, I decided that I should wash clothes, so I took my big, green laundry bag to the marina facility area and, I would write the latest blog post while waiting for the clothes to wash and dry. The washing machine was busy when I got there and the 30-minute wait gave me the chance to set up the laptop, download pictures and start writing the blog’s outline. When the clothes were just about ready to throw into the dryer, a woman came to claim them. She told me she was the captain of a catamaran named Hotel California and she too was heading to Florida. The boat came from Quebec, and she introduced herself as Monique (naturally!).

As we were having a nice conversation about her sail from Quebec, along came Claudio. She immediately heard his Italian accent (is it that noticeable!? LOL) and she phoned her Italian father back in Quebec. She put Claudio on the phone with him and they had a 20-minute conversation, in Italian, and realized that they came from the same region in Italy! Luigi (naturally!) and Claudio had a lovely conversation and exchanged contact information so they could meet one day. This is one of the perks of making this type of trip…the people you meet.

Più tardi nel pomeriggio era in programma di fare una lavatrice. Visto che l’unica lavatrice del marina era gia` occupata, mi sono messa nel frattempo a scrivere il blog.

Mentre scrivevo, una signora libera la lavatrice dei sui panni. Dopo una breve presentazione, vengo a conoscenza che lei e` lo skipper di un catamarano dal nome Hotel California e anche lei era diretta in Florida. La barca proveniva dal Quebec e lei si presentò come Monique (naturalmente!).

Durante lo scambio di presentazioni, arriva Claudio. Monique senti` immediatamente l'accento italiano di Claudio (è così evidente!? hahaha) e in breve tempo veniamo a scoprire che il padre e` un italo-canadese, e ci supplica di parlare con il padre in Italiano.

Dopo un dialogo di circa 20 minuti al telefono, scopriamo che Luigi (naturalmente!) e i genitori di Claudio sono originari della stessa regione Italiana. Uno dei vantaggi di fare questo tipo di viaggii e` la possibilita d’incontrare persone da tutti le parti del mondo!
