The sail out and around Cape May couldn’t have been more enjoyable. The ocean was extremely calm! I’d never seen it so tranquil! We picked up the incoming current into Delaware Bay that propelled us around the point of Cape May and spilled us directly into the bay at 8 knots. And the bay itself was like a lake; placid and sun kissed … it was beautiful!

La navigazione per doppiare Cape May non poteva essere più piacevole. L’oceano era estremamente calmo! Non l’avevo mai visto così tranquillo! Abbiamo preso la corrente in entrata nella baia del Delaware che ci ha spinto intorno alla punta di Cape May e ci ha versato direttamente nella baia a 8 nodi. E la baia stessa era come un lago; placido e baciato dal sole… è stato bellissimo!

We traveled inside the commercial shipping lanes but found the traffic of tankers to be light. Although every now and then, I felt unnerved by how close some tankers got to us.

Rather than travel the 60 miles from Cape May to the C & D canal all in one day and risk having to find an anchorage very late in the afternoon, we decided to break up the trip and anchor on the Cohansey River. The river was spectacularly beautiful and extremely calm and quiet. The entrance to the river was not very deep having less than 8 feet of water in spots … but then the depth dropped to 50 feet! The charts showed a marked anchorage area, but it seemed very small. Much to our surprise, the anchorage had no boats in it and the water depth at the edge of the marsh was a perfect 17 feet. Anchoring there was easy and the sunset breathtaking!

Piuttosto che percorrere le 60 miglia da Cape May al canale C & D tutto in un giorno e rischiare di dover trovare un ancoraggio molto tardi nel pomeriggio, abbiamo deciso di spezzare il viaggio e ancorare sul fiume Cohansey. Il fiume era particolarmente bello ed estremamente calmo e silenzioso. L’ingresso al fiume non era molto profondo avendo meno di 8 piedi di acqua in alcuni punti … ma poi la profondità è arrivata a 50 piedi! I grafici mostravano un’area di ancoraggio marcata, ma sembrava molto piccola. A nostra grande sorpresa, l’ancoraggio non aveva barche e la profondità dell’acqua ai margini della palude era di 17 piedi. L’ancoraggio è stato facile e il tramonto mozzafiato!

To say that the night was quiet is an understatement. The only sound we could hear was the foghorn of the green entry buoy for the Cohansey River. I heard myself breathe a few times … but nothing else. So quiet!

The next morning, we woke at 6:00 am and prepared to leave this beautiful spot so that we could catch the incoming current that would take us up the C & D canal Again. spectacular sunrise accompanied by a mist that caressed the marshes.

Dire che la notte è stata tranquilla è un eufemismo. L’unico suono che potevamo sentire era il corno da nebbia della boa verde d’ingresso del fiume Cohansey. Ho sentito il mio proprio respiro un paio di volte … ma nient’altro. Così tranquillo!

La mattina dopo, ci siamo svegliati alle 6:00 e ci siamo preparati a lasciare questo bellissimo posto in modo da poter prendere la corrente in arrivo che ci avrebbe portato sul canale C & D. L’alba spettacolare era accompagnata da una nebbia che accarezzava le paludi.
